Me and My cousin ?

So I have a cousin named Gwen. my mother adopted her when we were 5. we are very close or TIGHT to each other. Like when we were kids we have the same room and 2 beds and we would combine the bed and sleep together. When we became teenagers my mom separated our rooms but we would still sleep in one room together in one bed. we are very inseparable we go to school together we are fond of hugging, holding hands, and i even kiss her on the forehead even in public. There's no malice between the two of us but most of the people think we are doing . should i really distance myself from my cousin i love so dearly or ignore what they say?.. is this really ?
